Why we do what we do: Worship

I have struggled to write this post over the past few weeks.  Not because I don’t have much to say on the subject of worship at camp, but because I don’t feel as though my words capture the importance of worship at camp.

Worship is simply humbling ourselves before God, telling Him how awesome He is.  It is our small way to say, “God I’ve noticed the things You have done in my life and all I can say is WOW!”  Why is worship a critical part of our week of camp?  Because it is the perfect setting!  We are surrounded by God’s beautiful creation.  We are given the opportunity to worship without distractions or time limits.  We are encouraged to be ourselves and to freely express ourselves as loudly as we want to.  God wants to hear from us and camp worship encourages us to do so.

As we prepare for camp we take a great deal of care when selecting our worship team.  Not to show off the skilled musicians we know but to provide you with a team that understands what it means to be in the presence of God.  A team that can lead by example the act of praising our Creator, Savior, and Friend.

This past summer Craig said something that made me stop and think.

Worshipping God is about God!  Anything you get out of it is because He is crazy about you.

I know I am not the only one who thinks that camp worship is awesome.  Isn’t it amazing to think that God loves us so much and He created Camp Timberledge and brought us together because He is crazy about us!

It is amazing that God allows campers and staff to meet at Camp Timberledge every summer out of His love for us. And no matter how big the mistakes we have made, or how much, God still allows us to come and enjoy nature at Camp T, accepting us with the same open and loving arms as He does the greatest saint and the worst sinner.

Camp Timberledge, in my opinion, is a glimpse of what Heaven will be like. Worshipping God for eternity, being with friends and family paying out respect to God… could it get any better? Camp is so amazing in that we all have a chance to gather in fellowship and praise God for what he has done. Salvation, Love, Caring, Peace… EVERYTHING has been given to us by our Awesome God. I’ve recently been given another look on reasons we need to be praising God. Every breath you take is another gift from God. Every friend you make, every laugh you share, basically any and every memory you have throughout life is a blessing from God. Camp will always be a place to refresh your relationship with God no matter how difficult it is at the time. I’m excited for the retreat and once again another week this summer on the grounds and under the skies at Camp Timberledge!
