All About the Retreats

On May 14-16th we will be hosting our annual Spring Retreat.  I wanted to take just a moment to fill you in on the ins and outs of the retreats.

The retreats were started as a way to stay connected during the year.  We host a fall retreat (usually in early November) and a spring retreat (usually in May).  The retreats are a mini-camp and are usually more laid back.

Here is an example of a retreat weekend:

Friday night:  Arrival, short service, snack & games

Saturday:  Breakfast, service, games, free time, lunch, games, small group discussions, free time, dinner, service, snack, & games

Sunday: Breakfast, service, games, free time, lunch, clean-up, free time, departure

Retreats are a great way to reconnect with friends from camp.  They are also a great way to introduce a friend to camp.  Coming to a retreat is a great opportunity to get a taste of camp without committing to whole a week.

Please see our post SPRING RETREAT for all the retreat information.

All Time Funniest Camp Memories

Camp is a week filled with a roller coaster of emotions.  I can’t think of anywhere else that I laugh so hard one day and the next I am reduced to a good cry.  I enter the week wide awake & on a high and finish the week exhausted & on an even bigger high.    I couldn’t pick a better place to hang out and probably most of my top ten life memories happened at Camp Timberledge.

Let’s take a moment to relive our All Time Funniest Camp Memories.

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you have? Mongoose Lemur

What is the scariest thing you have ever done? Getting my blood taken & getting an I.V. at the hospital. (I hate needles they scare me!)

What is your greatest Camp Timberledge memory? (Impossible to choose!) I love worship and going to the altar at camp. God has touched my life in so many ways at the altar during worship.

What are you looking forward to the most at Senior Teen 2010? I always look forward to what God is going to teach me at camp. I always learn lots of new and important things. Even as an adult there is still so much to learn.

Jessica had the opportunity to attend Camp Timberledge as a camper.  After taking a few years off, Jessica has returned in the role of counselor.  Jessica really enjoys getting to know the campers and encouraging them throughout the year.

Jessica and her husband Steven are very involved in the leadership of their youth group at Living Hope Community Church.

Why We Do What We Do: Challenges

Senior Teen Week has come a long way since I attended as a camper 12 years ago.  Not that things were bad back then, they were just different.  One example would be that when I attended my senior year of high school there was no Young Teen or Senior Teen week, both weeks were combined.  Imagine if you can 8 graders through college freshman all the same camp!  Another example would be the schedule.  Built into the schedule were your generic afternoon sports games and a lot of free time.  Now I am all about free time, but sitting around camp for hours on end with little structure is only entertaining for so long.  So when Jordan and I took over as director we provided a little more structure in the form of Challenges.

Happy Easter

This holiday season we have lots to celebrate.  Together we can rejoice in the reminder that Christ died on the cross for our sins and in 3 days He walked out of the tomb ALIVE!
