Many of you may have heard the name Bill Rushik or as he is affectionately called, King Bill. Have you ever wondered who is this guy and why is he at camp? Here is a quick interview with the man who is in charge.
What is your role at camp? I have been Camp Timberledge Director for around ten years.
When did you start attending camp? I started as a camper in the early 1960′s before it was named Camp Timberledge. When I started it was know as CYC camp, it wasn’t until around 1967 that a contest was held to name the camp.
What roles have you played at camp? I began as a camper, then during my college years I became a counselor and helped as I was needed. When I was assigned my first church in 1970 I helped and directed at various age levels and finally settled in at the Junior (Cadet) camp week where I earned the title King Bill.
What is your college background and how long have you been a pastor? I have been a pastor for forty years and I have served at the South Canaan Church for 26 years. I earned a BA from Roberts Wesleyan College in Religion and Philosophy and a MA in counseling from Marywood University.
What are some of your greatest camp memories?
We used to stay in army cots and walled tents without platforms. When it rained there was water and mud running through the tent. Our bathroom was a two hole outhouse, of course there was no showers, we could go swimming, who needs soap.
One special camp activity was raking and removing stones from what is now the ball field. We also had time to fish, hike and shoot 22 rifles.
Any last comments regarding Camp?
Camp has always been a special place for me. I personally gained much, including leadership development and Spiritual growth and enrichment.
I continue to work at Camp Timberledge because I want other children and youth to experience the beauty of God’s creation and to come to know the touch of God’s love and forgiveness.
Being part of Camp Timberledge has been the best 50 years of my life.

Ohhhh…so that’s who he is ! hahaha =)
