I’m a planner! I love to make sure things are done ahead of time and that there is a detailed plan in place to make things run smoothly. I can go with the flow but would prefer it to be in line with my flow. Such is the case with camp planning.
I was super excited this year because we had a plan in January for Senior Teen 2010. We had all of our staff on board, the pastor had been scheduled, and the game was in place. I was able to relax because it was going to be a smooth 7 months until camp. Or so I thought.
“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
God’s Decree.
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.”Isaiah 55:7-9 (The Message)
In April I learned that Steve Barnwell (one of last year’s male counselors) and his wife Ashley were packing up their lives to follow God’s calling. Taking “One Life..No Regrets” seriously, Steve and Ashley are heading out on a 10 month mission trip around the country. I must admit my first reaction was “when are you leaving and are you going to miss camp?” Sure enough Steve and Ashley need to be in LA by August 8th and we are short 2 great counselors.
After I got over myself, I realized that God’s plan is bigger than mine. Steve and Ashley are going to be able to minister to a lot more kids then they will one week at Camp Timberledge. Surely I can rearrange the camp staff since Steve & Ashley are giving up their plans, jobs, apartment, security, etc. to follow God’s plan. Putting my plans aside, I am so excited that Steve & Ashley are going off into the unknown.
Please pray for Steve & Ashley as they travel for God over the next year. Pray that God will use them to impact the lives of kids all over the USA. Pray that they would be taken care of financially & physically. Pray that God would use us to help Steve & Ashley while they are living “One Life…No Regret”.
Oh and I learned my lesson. God has a bigger plan for Steve & Ashley and for the Senior Teen Staff 2010 and I am willing to run with it.
