It has been our experience that by the time campers reach senior teen level, the teens know more about camp than their parents do. This is a quick little note to inform parents of some frequently asked questions. So please take a moment to pass this blog post along.
Can my teen come late to camp or leave early? Registration begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, August 1st and camp ends 10:00am on Saturday, August 7th. We wouldn’t want your teen to miss anything so if your teen needs to come or leave at a different time please discuss the situation with us prior to camp.
Can I stop in for a visit during the week? It is our goal to create an environment where campers can feel comfortable and open amongst their peers. We have noticed in the past that when parents or other visitors show up at camp, the teens tend to become self-conscious. They seem to shut down if mom/dad or the lady who sits in the 3rd row at church, shows up. We ask that you not visit during the week. Take the opportunity to notice the before/after affect that camp tends to have on the teens. As always exceptions can be made if discussed prior to the start of camp.
What happens if my teen requires a special menu? At every meal we try to include a vegetarian option. We are also very conscious about peanut allergies. If your teen requires a more in-depth menu please let us know and we will consult with our cook as well as our nurse.
Am I going to be able to get a hold of my teen via their cellphone? It has been our experience that cellphones are a huge distraction at camp. This year we ask that all cellphones be left at home or we will store them in the camp office. If you need to call your teen during the week, we ask that you call the camp phone number, 570-729-7230.
What is the fall/spring retreat? Is my teen able to go? In the fall and in the spring we host a Senior Teen Retreat at Camp Timberledge. It is an opportunity for the teens to reconnect with friends and reflect on what God is doing in their lives. The cost is usually around $65-75. More info will be sent home from camp.
