I don’t know where you are reading this from, but man is it hot here! It is an icky, sticky, hard to breathe, don’t want to move kind of heat. It was on a day like today that one of my greatest camp memories was created.
A few years ago the weather at camp was nasty. It was so hot that no one really wanted to do anything. The games we played we reworked for the shade and more often than not
you could find teens quitting due to the heat. I remember one night at chapel, running around trying to figure out where else we could hold service. The air was heavy in the camp center and with no breeze, I wasn’t sure how anyone could concentrate on a message.
All week long we prayed for rain and a breeze. Anything that could cool us down. Everyday we prayed and on Friday afternoon our prayers were answered. With a clap of thunder, the sky grew dark and everyone raced to the ball field. As the rain started to pour down, I have never seen such excitement. Together we danced, ran around, and praised God that it was raining! If anyone had drove into camp at that moment, they would have thought we had all gone crazy.
Every year since then, the weather has been part of our camp prayers. As camp quickly approaches, this weather makes me nervous. But I know I serve a big God who created the earth and controls the wind. I also know that God wants to hear our prayers.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 (The New Living Translation)
So as the first week of camp starts on Sunday, join me in praying for the weather.

It’s probably not the same year, but i remember a similar experience when we were campers so many years ago… (probably in ’96 or ’97) and how much fun we had playing in the rain!!! I love reading about Camp T… thanks for posting!!! It brings back so many fond memories!
Allison, It was a different year, but I remember the one you were talking about too! That was a wonderful afternoon of Ultimate. Why is it that Ultimate Frisbee is better played in the rain? Thanks for following us on the blog. It is going to be a great year at camp, please remember us in your prayers. Check back in mid August to see how everything went!
