Love is good for you

Today is Valentine’s Day and needless to say there are a lot of mixed emotions on Facebook.  It is quite evident that people either love the day or they hate it.  Probably the best thing I read was written by a 5 year old.  In a drawing for his mom & dad, the little boy wrote, “Love is good for you”.  As I read the special message, I couldn’t help but think about Senior Teen 2010.

Faith

I read a news article today about the sainthood of Pope John Paul II being in it’s final stages.  Now I am not Catholic, so I am not very in-tuned with the whole concept of sainthood but one part of the article really didn’t sit right with me.

Things are changing

Things are changing.  Summer is changing into fall.  Days at the beach are changing into days in the classroom.  Some of you are experiencing major life changes as you are leaving home and going to college, or moving from one town to the next.  Parents are losing jobs, friends are making new friends, and new interests are leading you in new directions.  Change can be good, but that does not mean it is easy to handle.

How do you handle change?  Are you the type to run and hide?  Do you embrace change head first?  What does the bible teach us about change?

Why Run?

I hate running.  Let’s just get that out there.  I’m all about running in short sprints like in an Ultimate game or around the yard in a game of “duck, duck, goose” but running any distance for the fun if it is not my thing.  Even though I have a distaste for running I really appreciate some of the pictures we took at camp this summer.

We are home…now what?

Can you guess what the hardest part of our camp director job is?  It’s not coming up with the challenges or finding a staff.  Actually the hardest part of our job is when camp ends and everyone goes home.  We struggle trying to keep everyone connected and encouraged.

What I learned at the pool today

Last summer I babysat for a family who had a pool and Hannah went in the water everyday.  But that was last year and the memories have faded.  This summer we have had the opportunity to go swimming in our friend’s pool at least once a week and Hannah could not be more excited.  At the mere mention of the word “pool”, Hannah is packed and waiting by the door to go.  Isn’t that the way we are with camp?  Last year’s memories have started to fade and this year’s excitement is hard to contain!  Guess what else I learned at the pool today that I can compare to camp.

Change of plans

I’m a planner!  I love to make sure things are done ahead of time and that there is a detailed plan in place to make things run smoothly.  I can go with the flow but would prefer it to be in line with my flow.  Such is the case with camp planning.

A Breath of Fresh Air

This morning I did not want to get out of bed.  I had done some heavy lifting yesterday and this morning my body was protesting.  All I wanted was more sleep.   My muscles did not want to support my weight.  I felt grumpy, dirty, and worn out.  Yet my daughter was calling and the day’s work needed to be done.  So slowly I got up and dressed for the day.  Reluctantly I put on my coat and headed outside to get something from my car.  The minute I stepped out the door I was greeted by a cool, crisp, and very refreshing breath of air.  Instantly I was awake,  renewed, and ready to take on the day.
