Today’s post is simple: I LOVE CAMP!

I love everything about the camp grounds and the program. I love the memories that have been made there. The friendships that I formed there. The decisions I made that have shaped who I am today.

I love the anticipation that is being felt. The excitement of another year starting in just a few days. I love watching you converse on Facebook, wondering who is going to be there. I love that none of you have asked me, even though I have the list of all campers who will attend.

I love the staff that we have chosen and the campers who have decided to attend (even those I have not met yet). I love that some of our staff will be taking a week of vacation from work with no pay. I love that you as campers come to camp even when your friends think you are a dork.

I love that I get to share the job of director with my husband and that I get to minister with my friends. I love the fact that my vacation time is not spent tanning myself or fighting crowds at the beach but instead it is running around a field in Beach Lake and being a role model for teens.

I love the fact that we have an excellent speaker and awesome worship team. I love that God already has a plan for our week and that His plan is greater than mine.

I love that my house is a disaster, I have not had time to cook (so take out it is), I can’t remember when I last turned on the TV, all because I’ve been too busy with camp prep.

I love the fact that God has given me this opportunity to serve Him in the most wonderful place I can imagine.

I love Camp and in 3 short days I will be there!

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you have? Sorry…landlord says no pets!

What was your first car? Some sort of tan Ford product around ‘86, can’t really remember that far back and didn’t have it that long…under a year because of an accident.

What is the scariest thing you have ever done? Going back to school in the early 00’s

What is your greatest Camp Timberledge memory? Worship @ the boathouse, working behind the scenes with Craig & Eric, that was fun!

What are you looking forward to the most at Senior Teen 2010? upping (is that a word?) the geek bar with Craig & seeing lives change

All year we have been questioning whether or not Dwayne was going to be able to return to camp this year. We are very pleased to have Dwayne on staff this year. Dwayne plays a huge part in making the services run. He also helps capture unforgettable camp moments on film. Without him our lives at camp would be a little more hectic.

Last summer I babysat for a family who had a pool and Hannah went in the water everyday. But that was last year and the memories have faded. This summer we have had the opportunity to go swimming in our friend’s pool at least once a week and Hannah could not be more excited. At the mere mention of the word “pool”, Hannah is packed and waiting by the door to go. Isn’t that the way we are with camp? Last year’s memories have started to fade and this year’s excitement is hard to contain! Guess what else I learned at the pool today that I can compare to camp.

Hannah goes to the pool each week expecting the same things to happen. She knows where the arm swimmies and the littlest inner tube are. Hannah knows that I will be in the pool with her as well as her friends. There is always splashing, other kids jumping, toys on the side, and the perfect floating lounge to take a rest on. What Hannah doesn’t know is that every time she goes swimming, she leaves the pool with a new experience. At first Hannah clung to me. Then she floated by herself in a tube. Last week she swam around the pool in arm swimmies by herself. Today she went under water. While Hannah comes expecting the same pool experience, I provide something new for her each time.

Many teens come to camp expecting the same camp experience. They come knowing the routine, hang out with the same friends, and refuse to let God show them anything new. Someone at camp last year remarked, “It’s Wednesday and there is always a service like this on Wednesday night.” It makes my heart sad because that teen did not see the beauty of God transforming lives, they just saw people lining up in front of a microphone.

What if Hannah went to the pool thinking, “I know what I did last week and I am going to do the same thing this time”? Or if she stayed in the arm swimmies, refusing to let me show her something new. Her pool experience would get boring pretty quick. What if we approached camp the same way? What if you came to camp thinking, “I like these people from last year so there is no reason to talk to anyone else.” Or if you only sit in the back row of the Camp Center and say , “it’s Wednesday, I know what is going to happen.”

The fun thing about taking Hannah to the pool is that each time we are there, Hannah gets closer to swimming on her own. Each new experience is helping her to grow and she is having a blast doing it. This summer, let God show you something new at camp. I pray that your camp experience would be unlike any you have ever had before.

Young Teen Week has begun and by evidence of my failure to post this yesterday, you can tell life is busy here.

As we spend the last 5 days packing and getting ready for our week, please remember the young teens in prayer.

The directors Jen and John have asked for prayer for their staff and for the weather. Many of this year’s staff have babies/small children and Jen asked that we pray for them. Also if you are in the Beach Lake region you know that the weather has been crazy the past few days. Please pray for the Young Teen Week (and ours) that the weather would be calm and cool.

There is less than a week left until Senior Teen 2010! We have been counting down and it is almost here. Make sure you get your paperwork in order and that you pack everything you might need. Senior Teen 2010 here we come!

A few people have been asking me about the camp medical forms. Let me give you the quick overview of our policy.

You will need a new medical form for camp every year! The form can be found on the camp website www.camptimberledge.org. The required physical has to have been done within the last two years, but you still need a new medical form signed by your doctor for this year. Remember NO NEW MEDICAL FORM MEANS YOU WILL HAVE TO LEAVE CAMP UNTIL YOU GET ONE!

If you have any other questions regarding the medical forms or other health questions, please let me know and I can get you in contact with our nurse.

There are only 10 more days until camp so don’t waste time. Get your forms signed and get packing!

One down and three to go. Today starts the second week of the camping season. The Intermediate week is for campers in grades 6&7 and we ask that you keep them in prayer this week.

Please pray for the Director Rosie. Rosie has spent many years at camp in many different roles, but this year is her first year as director. Rosie has had a lot of bumps in the road as she has been planning so please pray that everything runs smoothly.

Please pray for the campers. For lives to be changed.

Keep in mind the college students who are counseling for the second week in a row. Also your fellow friends who are part of the Leadership Training program.

I am so excited to hear about the great things that are going to come out of Intermediate Week.
