Weather prayers

I don’t know where you are reading this from, but the weather has been crazy here.  One week it is an icky, sticky, hard to breathe, don’t want to move kind of heat and the next week it is sunny with a nice breeze.  Since the weather plays such an important role at camp, I’ve already started looking at the forecast.

Weather prayers

I don’t know where you are reading this from, but man is it hot here!  It is an icky, sticky, hard to breathe, don’t want to move kind of heat.  It was on a day like today that one of my greatest camp memories was created.

A few years ago the weather at camp was nasty.  It was so hot that no one really wanted to do anything. The games we played we reworked for the shade and more often than not you could find teens quitting due to the heat.  I remember one night at chapel, running around trying to figure out where else we could hold service.  The air was heavy in the camp center and with no breeze, I wasn’t sure how anyone could concentrate on a message.

All week long we prayed for rain and a breeze.  Anything that could cool us down.  Everyday we prayed and on Friday afternoon our prayers were answered.  With a clap of thunder, the sky grew dark and everyone raced to the ball field.  As the rain started to pour down, I have never seen such excitement.  Together we danced, ran around, and praised God that it was raining!  If anyone had drove into camp at that moment, they would have thought we had all gone crazy.

Every year since then, the weather has been part of our camp prayers.  As camp quickly approaches, this weather makes me nervous.  But I know I serve a big God who created the earth and controls the wind.  I also know that God wants to hear our prayers.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 (The New Living Translation)

So as the first week of camp starts on Sunday, join me in praying for the weather.

All Time Funniest Camp Memories

Camp is a week filled with a roller coaster of emotions.  I can’t think of anywhere else that I laugh so hard one day and the next I am reduced to a good cry.  I enter the week wide awake & on a high and finish the week exhausted & on an even bigger high.    I couldn’t pick a better place to hang out and probably most of my top ten life memories happened at Camp Timberledge.

Let’s take a moment to relive our All Time Funniest Camp Memories.

Why We Do What We Do: Challenges

Senior Teen Week has come a long way since I attended as a camper 12 years ago.  Not that things were bad back then, they were just different.  One example would be that when I attended my senior year of high school there was no Young Teen or Senior Teen week, both weeks were combined.  Imagine if you can 8 graders through college freshman all the same camp!  Another example would be the schedule.  Built into the schedule were your generic afternoon sports games and a lot of free time.  Now I am all about free time, but sitting around camp for hours on end with little structure is only entertaining for so long.  So when Jordan and I took over as director we provided a little more structure in the form of Challenges.

Top Ten Things To Get You Through The Winter

It is the middle of winter.  Somehow the endless amounts of snow, the cold weather, and  the flu like symptoms  just won’t go away.  Parents, teachers, and even friends are about to drive you past the point of no return.  I bet you are longing for those warm summer days beside the cool sparkling lake.  Do you have the desire to share your thoughts about God; your hurts; dreams; and struggles; with people who will listen?  Does the thought of breaking a sweat while playing a stupid game bring those warm fuzzy feelings?  Ok so maybe not that scenario, but when it comes down to it you miss camp.

Thanks so much for posting your favorite camp 2009 camp memories.  It is really fun to recall those great moments together.  I did not get a chance to share mine yet, so I thought I would blog about it today.

Without a doubt my favorite 2009 memory was the fantastic worship!
